Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine at MSJ

The mission of MSJ Sports Medicine is to care for the health and safety of our athletes through wellness education, advocacy, and hands-on intervention. 

The 5 domains of athletic training include: injury/illness prevention and wellness promotion; examination, assessment and diagnosis of injury/illness; immediate and emergency care; therapeutic intervention; healthcare administration and professional responsibility.

The athletic trainer's responsibilities include:
  • Practice/game coverage
  • Injury evaluation, assessment, and referral if warranted
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Recovery 
  • Wound care
  • Emergency response
  • Injury prevention and general wellness education
  • Emergency action planning
  • Tracking of environmental conditions, safety, etc.
  • Preceptor/clinical supervisor to Towson U Athletic Training students

Hours

Office Hours: 12:00-2:00 p.m. or by appointment

Treatment/Rehab: 2:30-3:30 p.m. or by appointment

For athletic injuries, we typically recommend seeing a sports medicine or orthopedic specialist. If you need help booking an appointment, please don’t hesitate to reach out to dyoung@msjnet.edu.

    There are many physical therapy clinics and companies, but for most you must have a prescription for insurance coverage when you call to schedule.  A few recommendations if you don’t already have a relationship with a PT include:

    Please bring our Physical Form with you to your physical exam. For continuity of care, we always recommend scheduling with your primary care provider or pediatrician. Meet the Athletic Trainers

DAMON YOUNG
Athletic Trainer

Damon graduated from Towson University in 2022. His clinical rotations in undergrad included Towson University track & field, Towson University football, Towson University men’s basketball, MSJ, and Loyola University men's lacrosse. Before coming to MSJ, he completed an internship with the Buffalo Bills. He is primarily responsible for collision sports (i.e. football, ice hockey, rugby).
AMIR DEFINO
Athletic Trainer

Amir earned an M.S. degree in Exercise Science from the University of Connecticut in 2024 and a B.S. in Athletic Training from Towson University in 2022. During his undergraduate experience, Amir worked with Towson University football, women's basketball, and women's soccer. He also had clinical rotations at Towson High School and MSJ. His graduate research included heat illness, public health, and preventing sudden death in sports. Prior to MSJ, Amir was the Head Athletic Trainer at Windham High School in Willimantic, Connecticut. 

Mount Saint Joseph High School

Mount Saint Joseph is a Catholic, college preparatory school for young men sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers.
