Students Earn Record-High AP Exam Scores
Mount Saint Joseph is proud to have a long history of high-achieving Advanced Placement (AP) students, and last year's AP Exam results show no exception. In 2024, Mount Saint Joseph had 184 AP students take a combined total 429 exams, and a record-high 95% of students earned a passing score of 3 or higher on at least one exam! Many colleges and universities accept scores of 3 or higher for college credit in equivalent courses. Notably, seven of MSJ's AP classes boast exam passing rates of 100% - Biology, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Spanish Language, Art and Design, and U.S. Government.
Out of MSJ's total number of exams taken (429), 92% were scored 3 or higher, which far surpasses both the state and global passing rates in the Advanced Placement Exams offered at MSJ - 68% and 67%, respectively. Additionally, 74% of MSJ's exams scored 4 or higher (compared to 47% statewide and 43% globally), and 34% earned the top mark of 5 (compared to 20% statewide and 18% globally).
Mount Saint Joseph also had a record number of students awarded AP Scholar status. According to CollegeBoard, "the AP Scholar Awards recognize high school students who have demonstrated exemplary college-level achievement on AP Exams." A total of 92 MSJ students were named AP Scholars for earning scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. Of those, 23 students were named AP Scholars with Honors for earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams. And, an impressive group of 43 students were named AP Scholars with Distinction for earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more exams.

"Gaining in-depth knowledge in these rigorous courses gives our students the opportunity to earn college credit and a valuable head start on their college careers.
