Brendan Donohue Named President

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Chip Molloy '79, announced the appointment of Mr. Brendan Donohue as President of Mount Saint Joseph in the following letter on January 8, 2025.

Dear Mount Saint Joseph Community,

On behalf of the Xaverian Brothers and the Mount Saint Joseph Board of Directors, I am excited to announce the hiring of Mr. Brendan T. Donohue as the next President of Mount Saint Joseph, effective December 30, 2024. Mr. Donohue has graciously and effectively fulfilled the roles of Interim President and Principal of The Mount this academic year after being hired as Principal last year.

Prior to arriving at The Mount, Mr. Donohue served at Xavier High School in Middletown, Connecticut–a fellow Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School–where he was Academic Dean for six years and Principal for 13 years. Mr. Donohue has served the Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools network for 23 years and is in his 33rd year in Catholic education. He and his wife, Maura, have sent all four of their children to single-sex Catholic schools because of the value they place on such education and formation of young men and women today. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Magdalen College, a master’s degree in secondary school administration from Boston College, and a master’s degree in history from Duquesne University.

During his tenure at Xavier, he led such initiatives as creating an Academic Achievement Center, enhancing the Dual Enrollment Program with the University of Connecticut, instituting a one-to-one technology program, and developing new faculty and professional development methods. He was also part of the leadership team that undertook a capital campaign leading to newly renovated outdoor athletic facilities and an addition to the school featuring a fine arts center and science lab.

The Search Committee interviewed candidates from all over the country. The combination of Mr. Donohue’s experience as a mission-minded leader in a Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School, his strategic mindset, his genuine passion for the ongoing success of the school that we all love, and his humble persona made him the obvious choice. The Search Committee unanimously recommended Mr. Donohue to the Board to serve as President of Mount Saint Joseph through the next phase of our history as we prepare for The Mount’s 150th anniversary.
I personally wish to thank the Board’s Search Committee Chair, Mr. John (JT) Farcosky ’03, for shepherding a robust, national search since late last spring in conjunction with Partners in Mission, the pre-eminent Catholic school consulting firm in the country.  I also am most grateful to the Search Committee members for their discretion in a competitive process and for the numerous hours they poured into reviewing prospect profiles and dossiers, interviewing candidates, and discerning carefully the best-fit leader for the President position.

Along with support from his staff, Mr. Donohue will continue to manage the responsibilities of the principal until a new one has been identified. Since the president appoints the principal, Mr. Donohue has already begun the process of searching for the school’s next principal.

Mr. Donohue has prepared a letter regarding his presidential appointment which can be found here.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Donohue on his new role.

Sincerely,
Lawrence “Chip” Molloy ’79
